The original settlers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm thatched bungalows for honeymooners.

People can drive across the Dunedin Causeway to enjoy the  Gulf of Mexico beaches, mangrove swamps, and tidal flats. Nature lovers will see osprey nests, tons of shorebirds, and a rare virgin slash pine forests in South Florida.

The park has several nature trails and areas for bird watching.

Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters or just enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Shelling can be lots of fun, as the Gulf of Mexico deposits many seashells on the shore.

Honeymoon Island State Park Fees (as of Jan 2013):

$8.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle.

$4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle.

$2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.

$4.00 per vehicle: sunset fee, starting one hour prior to sunset.

Picnic Pavilion Rental Fees:

$30.00 per day, plus tax.
