RV Smoke Detector
Why is an RV smoke detector important or useful?
I imagine the #1 safety issue in RV’s probably isn’t so much when they are moving, but are when they are sitting still and I”m GUESSING that the most likely dangerous thing to happen is a fire. Even when they are moving, they seem to catch on fire.
Based on that I would want an RV smoke detector. Especially when you are sleeping and you need to be woke up. I’d hate to have a fire get big enough to cut off my escape (many people like to sound educated by using the word egress, but I’m avoiding it in an effort to avoid sounding full of self puffery) route.
The smoke alarms in our Open Rang are even wired into the RV’s 12 volt electrical system. I like that idea, but I can see that maybe that it ought to have a backup battery as well.
I will tell you for sure that we test them monthly. The best way to test them is to have Sheri cook bacon. That is a very real world test and we use if very often! :-)
If you need a RV smoke detector, here are a couple from Amazon (disclosure). I didn’t see too many specific to RV’s so I just put a couple here to get you started:
- First Alert SA305CN Smoke Alarm with Long Life Lithium Battery
- First Alert SA304CN3 Smoke Alarm with Escape Light
