I won’t write a great deal about Mount Vernon, but Sheri and I visited it and the place is TRULY a national treasure and so was George Washington. Close to Washington DC, Arlington, Alexandria, Baltimore and other east coast cities it is truly worth the trip.

A few things I learned or appreciated MORE after the trip…

• Washington ( and our founding fathers ) had bucks – these were pretty well-to-do people.
• Washington had slaves. I guess I was surprised at that. The history books don’t bring that out.
• His house was kept in very good condition.
• He was buried on his property.
• You can see the bed where he died.
• You can see a gift Lafayette gave him.
• He was very special, maybe not as a commander, but as a PERSON. He turned down powers that 999 out of a 1000 would have grabbed willingly. Because of that, we have had 200+ years of a GREAT republic. Thanks George. Isn’t it amazing what happens when people do the RIGHT thing!!!
