Long Description
From the RV park: Ashcroft BC Invites you to drop by, stay, and enjoy!
You may be pleasantly surprised and find yourself coming back again and again!!
Ashcroft is a very friendly little village with rich history and unique surroundings. History abounds here, from the first Nations, to the Cornwall brothers who built the Ashcroft Manor in the 1860s, to the pack trains loaded with supplies for the gold miners of the Cariboo, to the arrival of the C.P.R. in the late 1800s, to a growing town with hotels and lots of shops, to the Chinese who ran many of those shops, to the removal of the Trans Canada Highway from the town, to the beginning of copper mining in the area, to the advent of the Coquihalla, and the slowing of vehicular traffic coming this way, all this and much more makes this village so unique. All this and more is told in many ways at our museum, one of the best small town museums BC has to offer.
If history is your passion, maybe an historical walk through the town would interest you. At the museum, you can pick up a brochure to guide you on this walk. Maybe just walking is what you like, you are sure to enjoy the sights of the town. If you are a hiker, there are plenty of wonderful trails around to keep you hiking for days. In the past we have had a wonderful little book, which supplied easy directions, hiking information and wonderful coloured photos of the hikes in the area. If you are interested please inquire at the museum, or at the Village office at 601 Bancroft St.
Every Saturday morning during the summer months you will find a farmers market on one of our streets in the downtown area, with plenty to offer from fresh veggies to cute hats to keep off the warm summer sun. If the day is warm and you are tired and need a place to have a picnic, there are picnic tables nestled in the shade in Heritage Park right on the main street. There are washrooms, a Japanese garden, a caboose and a big blue mining truck for the kids to investigate. If it’s really hot and you need to cool down, there is a public pool on the north side of town, which is open all summer.
If you’re a rodeo fan you might wish to plan a visit mid June when Ashcroft celebrates its wild roots dating back to its history of horse racing on the main street. The rodeo comes complete with a parade on the weekend.
If you are around in September, the Fall Fair is usually the first Sunday of the month. There is something for every age and interest. Did you know that Ashcroft was once the Tomato Capital of the World?
You see there are lots of things to see and learn about in Ashcroft. Why not give us a try, chances are you will be very glad you did!! We’re located about 100 km west of Kamloops and 10 km south of Cache Creek. Just watch for the signs coming north or south, turn east and we are about 6 km off the Trans Canada Highway.
For all you RVers, we have a lovely campground set in the trees on the shores of the Thompson River. Its close enough to downtown to walk to everything. It boasts free showers, water, electric (15 amp) and a sani station. Train buffs are also welcome and love it here! Call Legacy Park Campground at 250-453-2642 for further information.
We look forward to meeting you!
