RV Selection Guide and RV Buying Guide

Congratulations! You have access to this incredibly valuable quiz!

RV Selector Guide

Step 1 of 10

10%
This is important. If you will allow your current car or pickup to be a determining factor in your RV purchase, it will have a MAJOR impact on the RV you will get. If you are willing to retool your transportation completely, then select no opinion and see what the quiz comes up with. Maybe you'll be surprised... maybe not.
RV52.com has a theory. That a living entity consumes approximately 250 square feet. A married couple is a single entity. A kid is maybe a half entity - please no hate mail - it is a theory. So a kid would consume only 125 square feet. A single adult is a full entity (250 square feet). So using this formula it will really tell you how successful you will be with this set of entities in an RV. One other thing, you have to factor duration into the calculation - so full time is 100% of my sq feet estimate above. Anyway, I thought it was a fun idea.
If you have a BIG RV, like a toy hauler, with fold out beds for 12 people and you are using it on a weekend of mudding you can probably handle 12 people for an extended weekend. If you are living in the toy hauler full time, you probably won't be able to handle more than your spouse and a couple of kids TOPS. I'm sure there are exceptions, but more people in a small space for a long duration are all competing factors. This question helps you factor this in.
This question gets to the heart of the idea about how easy it is to get up and go. For example, a Class B and the Class B lifestyle is clearly going to differ from a Class A with a towed car (toad).
This speaks to the ability of the rig to range far and wide. In my opinion, dragging a camping trailer all over Timbuktu probably is harder than a Class A with a long distance tag axle. Or compare a fifth wheel to a Class C. I think the scoring is more subtle here, but I tried to consider this.
This is an oddball question, but it speaks to some of my recommendations I'll provide in the answers. It also give some subtle hints at some odd ideas - like outdoorsy people will probably gravitate to Class B, camping trailers, toy haulers and travel trailers. The rest will go towards 5th wheels, class a, and class c RVs.
If you have lots of stuff, you should consider a toy hauler. This is almost a puff question, but if you have lots of stuff, it might not be a bad idea.
An RV is a LUXURY item by almost every standard. Sure, some people choose to live in them in some scary places, but truth be told, most people have an RV in addition to their house and other things. So you have to be super honest with yourself about what you want. I'm just trying to factor this in to help you come clean with yourself. (Gosh, thanks RV52!)
The truly American question. How much money do you have. It matters and it will push you in some directions versus the others.
  • Again, RV52 makes this optional, but gosh darn it, if you would put in a name, then if you say I should contact you about RVs, at least I could put in the email a nice salutation. Your call.
  • I'll use this for three purposes. 1) if you want me to write you, I will, 2) If you are willing, I'd love to put you on my email list, but I'll ask you about that later, and 3) I use this as a weak security measure so that no one can simply put in random numbers and get results from RV52. With your email, you can get or share your test results with friends.
I honestly don't know what I would write you other than to ask you what you think. But maybe I would. I don't know.
You can UNDO or UNSUBSCRIBE at any time. Every email I send you tells you how to do this. Truth is, my stuff really is pretty cool. Totally unpredictable and not too boring.
Not required, but it would be fun and useful to really be clear about when you are going to do this. It also sets the stage/perspective about savings, resources and helps you set a trajectory.
  • Its optional, but I think it would be fun to know where you are currently.
