Thanks…I really couldn’t answer some of the questions with one answer. For example, how mobile will we be. At times moving daily, at times staying for a week or two, and if workamping staying in place for months. I think this skewed the results. We currently have a Class A and have enjoyed it immensely especially when watching some of the other campers trying to set up or hook up their 5th wheels. We didn’t pick a trailer because of the difficulty in towing it in bad weather. The class C was too small. However, now that we are staying in one place we are looking seriously at a Park Trailer…not a park model but a trailer with some park model characteristics like lots of long top to bottom windows, slide outs, a den, full size appliances, etc. We will be moving it maybe but only once or twice a year and probably have somebody move it for us with their large 1 ton truck. Though technically an RV like habitation, it is more like a home and thus more suitable to how we plan to live now that we are having difficulty traveling but still like the concept of being with like-minded individuals in a campground or RV park atmosphere. RV people rock and are the nicest people in the world!!!
Great. Hope my “quiz” helped you put some ideas into perspective. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I don’t think a computer can either – but maybe through taking this it gets you thinking so that you can become more convicted on your direction!

Not bad.. we are currently in a 5th wheel, but your quiz shows a preference for a Class A followed by a toy hauler… and we have been looking at the Outlaw Class A toy hauler! good job!
You are on the money RV52 — we have more stuff than storage in our current 35′ fifth wheel !! However we are still learning what gear must go every trip and what can stay home. We are true Boy Scouts — be prepared and take lots of gear!
Thx guys! You can’t possibly imagine how much joy it brings to me to hear that my lifestyle quiz helped you with some ideas. A 35 footer is not a small potato! I wrote an entire book on the subject http://rv52.wpengine.com/spartanrv . The idea is that parting with “stuff” is super hard – especially being trained by US society to be big time consumers!

You recommended a truck camper, that’s my first choice but my wife wants more room so we are looking for a smaller older 5th wheel
AWESOME! Great to hear the quiz might have been helpful.

Just to let you know…I have a F 250 long bed club cab…a toy hauler was my first choice but…that is gonna be more things that could go wrong. Then the thought of a smaller 5th wheel. Again…that’s more headaches (pros and cons) I decided on a truck camper. I can get where I’m going, get in and out of tight spots, drive thru city traffic, just about pulling over anywhere to catch some shut eye. I can carry 3800 lbs on the back so I’ll keep it down to 3000 lbs max. I’ll be driving from sea to shining sea and hopefully keeping a journal as I go. You see I drove cross country for a few years and wished I kept a journal back then…so I could visit all the wonderful places I said I’d returned to. Problem is…I forgot where almost all of those exciting places. Plus I’d like to touch base with what friends and relatives I have left.
RV52 has been :very” helpful in helping me pursue my dream of this adventure…and I thank you! Without your articles and sound advice I might not have been able to pull this off. I DO enjoy your emailing’s and do look forward to reading them.
Again…thank you
Good luck. If you want a place to publish your adventures… let me know.

Oops! You took the quiz. Thanks. Hope it was helpful.

I have no desire at all for a motorhome, a trailer is fine. You also did not ask about how many axles I would prefer. A single axle trailer bounces way too much. Your recommendation was for a Class A motor home, yet I indicated the tow vehicle would be Ford Ranger/Tundra size. I have the tow vehicle so your recommendation makes no sense to me at all.

Thx Don. I did find a bug. Thanks. My quiz is trying to tell you that based on your lifestyle selections you may want to think about an RV that can carry more.
The quiz picked a class A because they have lots of capacity and are geared towards heavy use.
The quiz picked a class B (after fixing the bug) because you can use a Class B for lots of cool things for quick getaways and heavy use and you can have a trailer to haul your stuff which is a cool idea.
Then finally it picked a toy hauler since they usually have a good capacity.
For example, my 16′ RV would have a Tundra class truck crying FOUL pretty quickly – and 16 foot is TINY. Worse, the 16 footer only has, maybe an extra 300-400 pounds carrying capacity above empty.

The results are the same as you told me personally by email. In reply, ain’t going the Toy Hauler route again. Ain’t roomy enough and have no need for the garage, whether for storage or garage use. Learned al that with the first one I owned for a short period of time. I desire 1.5 bath, roomy, not small. Just exactly will depend upon what we can find in a couple of years. As for the questions, I agree with another comment, my style of camping will depend on purpose. I cant be a full timer, must keep the house, However, my bank account and other issues will determine what we do. One year might be short trips and save money for the next year and a long trip.

In 1972 i set forth my years of traveling onboard a aircraft carrier (not an rv, but it came close) visiting the ports around the world. Then I retired in 1992, hoping to do some more traveling before life was completed. Unfortunately, true life events always kept me from my goal.
But the more true life sets in, the more i believe the RV life is but a dream. Because of my home and its upkeep, i just pushed back my rv dreams another year. I’m now 65.5 years old and my plans of purchasing another RV before I reached 70 have changed once again.
I have great memories of owning one for a short period of time (2012), but a “true life” event set in and the dream went to the wayside to take care of family. Now it seems that I’ll be 71 before i can do it again and that may be difficult (my father died at the age of 71).
In any case, i hope others may fulfill their dreams as i just keep dreaming. I’m not giving up yet, but I don’t know what true life event is around the corner. At least the dream goes on.
You say that a tundra will be crying foul while pulling a 16’ trailer. I said I have a &150 but the towing capacity is 10400 pounds and I plan to keep trailer weight to 9400 at the most just myself and my pup and I learned long time ago that I can live comfortably with the bare minimum of clothes and about the only other things would be some fishing gear and rifles and my brinkman grill/smoker. I am or will be a first time user and plan to be able to boondocks for extended time as well as stay in it at rv parks possibly for few months at a time as that seems the best way to go price wise as most I have seen are cheaper that way then by the month or week thank you for your articles they have been a great help to me in my research into getting a travel trailer
Good luck! Sounds like you are on a great adventure with your pup. I have a GMC 1500 with a 16′ travel trailer and you’d think I was pulling a semi-trailer by the sounds of the engine. Maybe someday I’ll own a diesel. I love the idea of living light – possessions are killers actually – very stressful. I wrote a mini-book on that very subject – https://rv52.com/spartanrv

Thanks! We figured on a class a diesel pusher since we’ll spend time with family in Colorado. Nice to get confirmation!
