- Bismarck KOA is an easy off/on from I-94. Don't be surprised if you decide to stay longer than planned at this family-friendly park. The TLC that goes into this KOA Kampground is evident the moment one drives through the security gate. Brightly colored flower plantings and baskets greet the registering traveler...and a warm greeting from the staff team makes one feel you're "home." There are plenty of options to choose from for parking big rigs (though reservations are highly recommended). For those who prefer no trees, that option is available while other sites provide "privacy" hedges, and mature trees provide a welcome shade during the summer. The expansive tenting area is beautifully maintained and feels secluded enough to say you're in the woods. KOA Kabins are available to accommodate those who prefer less of a "roughing it" experience. There is a lot to do without leaving the campground: A beautiful swimming pool is located in front of the gift shop and convenience store. Relax at a poolside patio table or under shade and brightly potted hanging baskets. Make your own ice cream sundae every evening. Take advantage of the Bar-BQ ribs and brisket prepared slow-cook style - sure to make you show up every Friday & Saturday evening it's served. Yummm! Better tell the office staff you'll be there at dinnertime! There's also a great tennis and basketball court, horseshoes and a kiddy playground. The Bismarck area is rich in history. At Fort Abraham Lincoln, a key infantry ...

- Description
- At the Red Trail Campground and RV Park in Medora, North Dakota. Performing nightly during the summer are Vern and Rita Davis. They have been playing here for 28 years every summer from 5:45-9:45pm, entertaining all who want to listen. Vern has some fame, he wrote and recorded Shadows on the Wall which got high up on the country charts. Anyway, at 80 years old he is retired now and spends the summer playing "champagne country" with his young bride. This was recorded in Summer of 2011 on a 9 state road trip. North Dakota was tops on the trip, it is down home charm like this that really made this place so great.

- Description
- Campground St. Regis, the park with the WILDLIFE CARVINGS, is located approx. 2 miles West of St. Regis, MT. (Off I-90 Exit 33). Being surrounded by mountains this campground feels peacefully secluded. Once you arrive and make it past the big ole' carved bear standing by the office door, you'll enter a registration office and be greeted with Western hospitality by Hosts Mitch & Lisa Hollingsworth or one of their friendly staff members. You'll be escorted to one of 75 sites -- that is, if you're ready to break away from the gift shop filled with a variety of western gifts, jewelry and carved critters waiting to be adopted. This RV Park/Campground is beautifully maintained in a wooded setting of shaded sites and green grass. Little surprises pop out as you stroll through the campground. Brightly colored flowers might live in an old dead stump; hanging baskets of florals brighten the office, laundry & game room walkway. Then more surprises can be found hanging on the side of a pole or carved into stumps or on top of them! These are the chain saw critter carvings that have been created by a local artist who realistically sculpts the animals. Each piece becomes a unique work of art. The laundry and restrooms are sparkling clean. Now for a swim? The heated pool is ready. Meanwhile, back at St. Regis: restaurants, gambling, golfing (2 courses), fishing, white water rafting...and by the way, Campground St. Regis has plenty of sites for tenters. Hwy. 135 heads North out of St ...

- Faces of the Oil Patch

- Description
- Faces of the Oil Patch describes the new visage of the oil patch—the areas in and around Williston, Watford City, Tioga, Stanley, New Town, Parshall, and Fort Berthold—in the words of the people who live and work in these communities. The 60-minute documentary shows us the towns that don't have the infrastructure to support the uncontrolled and dramatic growth, the ranchers who now view bumper-to-bumper traffic all day rather than the rare vehicle traveling along the two-lane horizon to horizon, and the oil workers who earn huge salaries but live in makeshift housing without hope of finding homes suitable for their families. The narratives and stunning video are woven together with visual images captured by noted still photographer Wayne Gudmundson to show everyday life and the changing vernacular landscape of northwestern North Dakota. Producers Bob Dambach Wayne Gudmundson Associate Producer Kim Stenehjem Editor Dave Geck Videographers Dave Geck Ryan Sailor Executive Producer Bob Dambach Production funding provided by The North Dakota Humanities Council and by the members of Prairie Public.
