RV Accessory – Fantastic Fan is great and Why it QUIT suddenly!

A little bit about the Fantastic Fan and a little “fix-it” tip

As I write this (Dec 2011), we’ve been in the Open Range 399BHS for over a year now. So I’m not telling you about something I’ve JUST LEARNED about – No – I’m talking about something Sheri and I use on a daily and frequent basis.

This is a vent fan that will really move air very rapidly within an RV. Or for that matter a shed, a building or whatever. Our Fantastic Fan will automatically open its cover and then when it is open far enough, it will automatically turn itself on. You also have three speeds that you can select for the fan.

How well does it work? We’ve found that when we turn on the fan, it will get the indoor temperature within a few degrees (something like 2-4 degrees F) of the outdoor temperature within about 30 minutes. It can move the air very rapidly.

In the evenings, we can close every window in the RV except for the ones where we want a personal breeze and the fan will do a great job of keeping air moving from the open window to the vent.

I highly recommend a Fantastic Fan if you don’t have one. I’ve listed one in this post from my Amazon affiliates account so you can see them first hand. I picked the cheapest one so you can pay more and get fancier ones if you like.

Fantastic Fan Quit Working

Recently (Winter 2011) our Fantastic Fan suddenly quit. No real warning and no symptoms. Here are some clues : it was rainy and humid outside (RV’s suffer badly from condensation).

Here is the LIKELY root cause. The SWITCH that turns the fan on when the vent goes up/down is corroding slightly – maybe corroding is two strong – it has an oxide buildup between its contacts perhaps. When it does this the switch no longer works.

Here is the fix : Get up on the roof and simply work the switch with your finger several times and the fan will start working again. Ours did. So don’t be alarmed – your LIFETIME guarantee Fantastic fan should start working again.

Hope this helps!
